Discover the latest performance Tree Adoption Foundation (TAF) continues to deepen its commitment to restoring Kenya's critical ecosystems while improving the livelihoods of communities that depend on them. As part of this commitment, the Foundation recently returned to Gangu Beach on Lake Kanyaboli in Siaya County to reinforce its partnership with the Gangu Beach Management Unit (GBMU) and local community stakeholders.

The visit marked another significant milestone in TAF's long-term ecosystem restoration programme at Lake Kanyaboli, demonstrating our belief that sustainable environmental conservation must be accompanied by investments that improve the well-being and resilience of local communities.

Led by the Foundation's Founder and CEO, Mr. Fanuel Onyango the Foundation donated essential working equipment, including wheelbarrows, pangas, slashers, and high-visibility reflector jackets. These items were provided in direct response to priorities identified by the Beach Management Unit and will enhance environmental management activities, improve workplace safety, and support the daily operations of fishermen and community volunteers responsible for maintaining the beach ecosystem.

Recognizing the importance of ecological restoration, the Foundation also planted an additional 200 indigenous, beach-friendly trees to strengthen shoreline protection, enhance biodiversity, reduce soil erosion, and contribute to the long-term health of the Lake Kanyaboli ecosystem.

This latest intervention builds upon previous investments by Tree Adoption Foundation, including the installation of solar-powered security lighting that has significantly improved safety and accessibility at the beach. To further strengthen community infrastructure, the Foundation also donated fencing poles, barbed wire, and construction nails to secure the beach perimeter and protect both public facilities and restoration sites.

The donations were formally received by the Gangu Beach Management Unit under the leadership of its Chairman, Mr. Martin Onyolo, together with members of the Board and community representatives.

Formalizing a Long-Term Partnership

A key highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tree Adoption Foundation and the Gangu Beach Management Unit. The agreement establishes a clear framework for collaboration, accountability, and long-term sustainability, ensuring that restoration efforts continue to benefit both the environment and the local community for years to come.

Responsibilities of the Gangu Beach Management Unit

Under the agreement, the Beach Management Unit committed to:

• Collaborate fully with Tree Adoption Foundation during project planning and implementation.
• Mobilize community participation and local ownership of all restoration activities.
• Protect project infrastructure from theft, vandalism, encroachment, and misuse.
• Establish sustainable mechanisms for maintenance and management.
• Ensure routine operation, cleanliness, repairs, and maintenance of completed facilities.
• Protect planted trees, restored habitats, and conservation sites.
