At Tree Adoption Foundation (TAF), our commitment to environmental conservation extends beyond planting trees. One such intervention is the installation of solar-powered lighting at Gangu Beach on Lake Kanyaboli in Alego Usonga, Siaya County. The Foundation installed multiple solar-powered lights across the beach to improve safety, security, and accessibility for the local fishing community.

For many fishermen who carry out their activities during the night, adequate lighting is essential. The solar lighting has significantly enhanced their working environment by improving visibility, increasing personal safety, and supporting economic activities after dark. Beyond benefiting fishermen, the lighting has also enhanced security for traders, residents, and other beach users, creating a safer and more vibrant community space.

“Ever since the lights were installed, fishermen are able to access the lake no matter the time of the night. We feel safe and the lights offer a point of reference more so when the waters are turbulent.” Said Martin Onyolo a fisherman and also the beach Chairman.
